[TEXT:] U.S. Ambassador to the People’s Democratic
Republic of Algeria
[TEXT:] Joan Polaschik
[Joan Polaschik:] Assalum aleikum, bonjour, azoul,
hello. I’m Joan Polaschik,
and I’m honored to represent President Obama
and my country as the next United States Ambassador to Algeria.
I've had the privilege of serving as a U.S. diplomat
for the last 20 years,
working primarily in North Africa and the Middle East.
The people, history and culture of North Africa hold
a very special place in my heart,
and I look forward to getting to know Algeria and
the Algerian people.
Ever since I served in Tunisia in the 1990s,
that very difficult decade for Algeria,
I've deeply admired your resilience and strength.
Our countries enjoy a long tradition of cooperation and friendship.
Algeria was one of the first to recognize the United States
and in 1962, the United States was among the first to
support Algeria’s independence.
Two centuries of history unite us.
I look forward to working with you
to advance our shared goals of promoting security and stability,
expanding our commercial ties,
and strengthening the bonds between our people.
