Hello! I am John Phillips, and I’m at the White House in Washington,
D.C., with my wife, Linda Douglass.
I am proud and honored to be the new U.S. Ambassador to Italy.

We are both so happy for the opportunity to live in your beautiful
Representing the United States of America in Italy has a special and
personal meaning to me.
I am the grandson of Italian immigrants Angelo Filippi and
and I grew up in a close-knit Italian-American family.
Linda and I have been to Italy dozens of times over our 40 years
and myself, I've been over 50 times in the last decade alone.
We have come to love the people and the culture of this
Our daughter, son-in-law and grandson plan to visit,
and our cat, Budetti, will be moving into Villa Taverna with us.
I like sports, and I look forward to playing bocce, biking and hiking
in the Italian countryside.
I am truly honored that President Obama has chosen me for this
I have been privileged to serve him as chairman of the President’s
Commission on White House Fellowships,
and I look forward to representing him and Secretary Kerry as we build
upon the strong alliance between the United States and Italy.
We are working together to promote a more secure and prosperous

global issues and building on our strong commercial ties.
