The U.S. State Department’s Information Resource Center in Lima, Peru, organized a continent-wide photo contest under the banner “FOTOTIERRA!” literally “EARTHPHOTO,” to promote World Water Day. The winning photos depict scenes from across South America that demonstrate the importance of water conservation. An exhibition of selected photos was unveiled March 22, 2011, World Water Day, at the Peruvian–North American Cultural Institute (Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano) in Lima.
This photo — “Hydrotopia” by Juan Manuel Tobares, Argentina — received an honorable mention in the contest.
